The Surf Twins Essaouira Experience — What to Expect When You Book With Us
You've decided to try surfing in Essaouira. You've found Surf Twins. Now you're wondering what actually happens — from the moment you contact us to the moment you paddle back to shore after your first session. Here's the full picture.
Step 1: Booking — Fast, No Bureaucracy
We keep booking simple. WhatsApp us at +212 643 806 655 and we respond within minutes. Tell us how many people, what level (total beginner, some experience, or intermediate), and when you want to go. We check availability, confirm the spot based on forecast conditions, and you're booked. No long forms, no deposit required for most bookings, no waiting 48 hours for a confirmation email. Same-day bookings are available if there's space.
We're available 7 days a week, year-round. If you message at 8pm about a lesson the next morning, we'll respond and make it happen.
Step 2: The Morning of Your Lesson
We pick you up from your riad or hotel in Essaouira — no need to figure out how to get to Sidi Kaouki yourself. The drive takes about 30 minutes. On the way, we check the forecast one final time and tell you what to expect: which spot we're going to, what the conditions are like today, and what we'll focus on in the session.
By the time you arrive at the beach, you know exactly what's happening and why. We don't just show up and hand you a board.
Step 3: On the Beach — Before You Touch the Water
We spend 30 to 45 minutes on the sand before anyone goes near the water. This is where most surf schools cut corners — rushing to get students in the water because it looks more exciting. We don't. The beach time covers:
- Ocean safety: how to read rip currents, what to do if you get caught inside, how to fall safely
- Paddling technique: the most physically demanding part of surfing and the most often taught wrong
- The pop-up: practiced on dry land until your muscles remember it, so that in the water you're not thinking — you're reacting
- Wave reading: how to identify a good wave from a bad one before it reaches you
Students who pay attention during the beach time almost always stand up faster than those who rush it.
Step 4: In the Water
Your instructor goes in with you. Not sits on the beach watching — goes in with you. They position you for waves, push you into the right ones at the right moment, and give specific feedback after each ride. "Your back foot was too far forward." "You looked down — keep your eyes on the beach." "That was perfect — now do exactly that again."
The session is two hours. In that time, most complete beginners stand up. Some catch 10+ waves. A few discover that surfing is going to completely rearrange their holiday plans for the next five years.
Step 5: After the Session
When you come in, we debrief. What worked, what to work on next time. If you're doing a day trip, lunch comes next — a Moroccan meal on the beach that's become one of the most-mentioned parts of the whole experience in our reviews. If it's a standalone lesson, we drive you back to Essaouira with enough time to shower, eat, and make it back to the beach for the sunset.
What Makes the Surf Twins Experience Different
We're not a franchise. We're not seasonal staff. We're Mouhssin and Yassine — twin brothers born in Essaouira who have surfed this coastline every day for over 20 years. When we take you to a spot, it's because we surfed it this morning and we know it's good today. When we give you feedback, it's because we've seen the same mistake 500 times and we know exactly what fixes it.
7,000+ surfers since 2017. 220+ five-star reviews. Maximum 5 students per group. No exceptions.

Sidi Kaouki vs Essaouira Beach: Your Surfing Questions Answered
Sidi Kaouki is generally better for surfing, with longer, cleaner, and more consistent waves thanks to direct Atlantic swells. Essaouira Beach is more sheltered, offering smaller waves that are ideal for beginners but often affected by wind.
Both spots are suitable for beginners, depending on conditions. Essaouira Beach is perfect for your first lesson with smaller, softer waves. Sidi Kaouki is also beginner-friendly, with a sandy bottom and multiple surf peaks that allow instructors to find the best waves for your level.
The best time for surfing is from September to April, when Atlantic swells are more consistent. During summer, Essaouira becomes very windy, which is great for kitesurfing but less ideal for surfing. Sidi Kaouki often still offers good surf conditions even when Essaouira is windy.
Most surfers choose to stay in Essaouira and surf in Sidi Kaouki. Essaouira offers more accommodation, restaurants, and cultural experiences, while Sidi Kaouki provides better and more consistent surf conditions. Many surf schools offer day trips between the two.
