Morocco Surf Camp — What to Expect, What's Included & Is It Worth It?
You've been thinking about it for a while. A week in Morocco, surfing every day, good food, warm weather, and coming home actually able to surf. But you have questions. Is a surf camp in Morocco worth it? What's actually included? Will it suit your level? What happens if the waves are flat?
We've been running surf camps in Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki since 2017, welcoming over 7,000 guests from more than 50 countries. Here's an honest, no-fluff breakdown of what to expect from a Morocco surf camp — the good, the great, and everything in between.
What Is a Morocco Surf Camp?
A surf camp in Morocco is an all-inclusive surf holiday package that combines accommodation, daily surf coaching, meals, transport, and equipment in one booking. Instead of planning everything separately — finding a hotel, booking lessons, renting a board, figuring out transport — everything is taken care of before you arrive.
At Surf Twins Essaouira, our surf camp packages are based in Sidi Kaouki, 25km south of Essaouira on Morocco's Atlantic coast. Our most popular package runs 6 nights and includes everything listed below.
What's Included in a Morocco Surf Camp?
Here's exactly what you get with our surf camp package from €380:
- 6 nights accommodation in Sidi Kaouki — comfortable guesthouse with pool, garden, and sea views
- 12 hours of surf coaching across 6 days — 2 hours per day with a certified local instructor
- All meals included — breakfast every morning, traditional Moroccan lunch on the beach, dinner every evening
- Daily transport to and from the best surf spots — we choose based on conditions each morning
- All equipment — surfboard and wetsuit for every session
- Airport transfer from Marrakech or Agadir included
- Free afternoon surf every day after the lesson — boards available to use
No hidden costs. No extras to pay on arrival. The price covers everything.
Is It Suitable for Beginners?
Yes — and in fact, beginners get the most out of a surf camp. Here's why:
When you surf every day for a week with the same certified instructor who can track your progress, the improvement is dramatic compared to taking occasional lessons back home. By day 3 most beginners are catching green waves consistently. By day 6, most people are riding along the face of waves and understanding how to read the ocean.
We've welcomed complete beginners in their 50s and 60s who caught their first waves on day 1 and left after a week surfing independently. The combination of warm water, consistent waves, good coaching, and time in the water simply works.
We also run camps for intermediate and advanced surfers — working on technique, wave selection, turns, and reading more powerful conditions. If you've been surfing for a while and want to break through a plateau, a week of focused coaching in good waves is the fastest way to do it.
What Are the Waves Like at the Surf Camp?
Sidi Kaouki receives consistent Atlantic swell year-round. The beach is long and sandy with multiple peaks — we can always find conditions that match your level. Beginners start in the sheltered bay with small, forgiving waves. As you progress we move you to more dynamic peaks further along the beach.
We also take camp guests to secret spots that aren't on any tourist map — breaks that only locals know. Some of the best surf experiences our guests have had are at spots they never would have found on their own.
The wind at Sidi Kaouki blows side-shore from the Atlantic, which keeps the waves clean and groomed. Mornings are typically the best time to surf — lighter winds, glassier conditions — which is why we run our coaching sessions in the morning and leave afternoons for free surfing.
What's the Accommodation Like?
Our surf camp guests stay in a comfortable guesthouse in Sidi Kaouki — a traditional Moroccan riad-style property with a pool, garden, and views of the Atlantic. Rooms are clean, well-furnished, and designed for people who've been in the ocean all day and want somewhere comfortable to rest and recover.
Sidi Kaouki itself is a small, quiet coastal village — nothing like the busy tourist areas of Marrakech or Agadir. It's peaceful, local, and genuinely Moroccan. Most guests love how removed it feels from the typical tourist circuit.
What's the Food Like?
This is one of the things guests consistently mention in reviews. The food is genuinely excellent.
Breakfast is fresh bread, msemen (Moroccan flatbread), honey, argan oil, fruit, coffee, and mint tea. Lunch on the beach is usually a tagine or couscous with fresh vegetables, followed by fresh-squeezed orange juice. Dinner is a full Moroccan meal — soup, main course, dessert.
If you have dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies) just let us know when you book. We accommodate everyone.
What If I'm Travelling Alone?
Most of our surf camp guests travel solo — it's actually one of the most common ways people book. Surf camps are a great way to meet people, and the shared experience of learning to surf together creates connections quickly.
By day 2 most solo travellers have already made friends with the rest of the group. By the end of the week people are exchanging contacts and making plans to meet again.
What Time of Year Is Best?
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–October) are our busiest and most popular seasons — consistent swell, warm weather, and ideal conditions for all levels.
Summer (June–August) is excellent for beginners — smaller, more manageable waves, warm water, and long days. Strong afternoon winds make this peak kitesurf season too.
Winter (November–February) brings the most powerful waves. Fewer guests, lower prices, and excellent conditions for intermediate and advanced surfers. Still warm enough to surf comfortably in a 3/2mm wetsuit.

Sidi Kaouki vs Essaouira Beach: Your Surfing Questions Answered
Sidi Kaouki is generally better for surfing, with longer, cleaner, and more consistent waves thanks to direct Atlantic swells. Essaouira Beach is more sheltered, offering smaller waves that are ideal for beginners but often affected by wind.
Both spots are suitable for beginners, depending on conditions. Essaouira Beach is perfect for your first lesson with smaller, softer waves. Sidi Kaouki is also beginner-friendly, with a sandy bottom and multiple surf peaks that allow instructors to find the best waves for your level.
The best time for surfing is from September to April, when Atlantic swells are more consistent. During summer, Essaouira becomes very windy, which is great for kitesurfing but less ideal for surfing. Sidi Kaouki often still offers good surf conditions even when Essaouira is windy.
Most surfers choose to stay in Essaouira and surf in Sidi Kaouki. Essaouira offers more accommodation, restaurants, and cultural experiences, while Sidi Kaouki provides better and more consistent surf conditions. Many surf schools offer day trips between the two.
