What to Expect from a Surf and Yoga Week in Morocco: A Day-by-Day Guide
Why Morocco is Europe's Favourite Surf and Yoga Destination
Every year, thousands of travellers from the UK, France, the Netherlands and Germany fly to Morocco for one thing: the combination of Atlantic waves, warm sunshine, and total mental reset that simply can't be replicated in Europe.
Essaouira sits at the heart of this. Three hours from London, two from Paris — and yet you land somewhere that feels entirely different from the world you left behind. Ancient medina walls, fresh grilled fish at the port, and some of the most consistent surf on the continent.
At Surf Twins Essaouira, we built our Surf, Yoga and Adventure Camp around exactly this feeling. Seven days designed to challenge your body, rest your mind, and reconnect you with what matters.

Who is This Retreat For?
Our retreats attract a specific type of traveller: someone who wants more than a beach holiday but doesn't want a boot camp. You might be a yoga practitioner curious about surfing. A surfer who wants to deepen flexibility and body awareness. A professional who needs a genuine reset — not a resort, not a tent.
You don't need surf experience. You don't need advanced yoga practice. You need curiosity, willingness to try something new, and a week to give to yourself.
A Typical Day at the Retreat
- 07:30 — Morning yoga on the terrace (gentle flow or vinyasa)
- 09:00 — Moroccan breakfast: bread, amlou, honey, eggs, fresh orange juice
- 10:00 — Surf session at Sidi Kaouki (2–3 hours)
- 13:00 — Lunch at the guesthouse or on the beach
- Afternoon — Free time, rest, medina visit or optional excursions
- 18:00 — Evening restorative yoga or yin session
- 20:00 — Group dinner with tagine or grilled fresh fish
No rigid timetable. No pressure. The pace adjusts to the group and the swell.
Why Sidi Kaouki is Perfect for a Surf and Yoga Retreat
Sidi Kaouki is 25km south of Essaouira — far enough from tourist crowds to feel like a discovery, close enough to explore the city. The beach is 8km of uninterrupted sand with consistent Atlantic swell and almost no other surfers on it.
The energy here is different. Quiet, wild, unhurried. The kind of place where you go to sleep to the sound of waves and wake up already looking forward to getting back in the water.
When to Book
Retreats run year-round. September to April brings the best surf season — powerful swells, warm sun, cool evenings. Summer retreats have smaller, gentler waves ideal for complete beginners and those focused primarily on yoga. Groups are capped at 8 guests, and spaces fill several weeks in advance — especially September and October.

Sidi Kaouki vs Essaouira Beach: Your Surfing Questions Answered
Sidi Kaouki is generally better for surfing, with longer, cleaner, and more consistent waves thanks to direct Atlantic swells. Essaouira Beach is more sheltered, offering smaller waves that are ideal for beginners but often affected by wind.
Both spots are suitable for beginners, depending on conditions. Essaouira Beach is perfect for your first lesson with smaller, softer waves. Sidi Kaouki is also beginner-friendly, with a sandy bottom and multiple surf peaks that allow instructors to find the best waves for your level.
The best time for surfing is from September to April, when Atlantic swells are more consistent. During summer, Essaouira becomes very windy, which is great for kitesurfing but less ideal for surfing. Sidi Kaouki often still offers good surf conditions even when Essaouira is windy.
Most surfers choose to stay in Essaouira and surf in Sidi Kaouki. Essaouira offers more accommodation, restaurants, and cultural experiences, while Sidi Kaouki provides better and more consistent surf conditions. Many surf schools offer day trips between the two.
