Surf Camp, Day Trip or Private Lessons in Sidi Kaouki? How to Choose
The Question Every First-Time Visitor Asks
If you're planning a surf holiday in Sidi Kaouki, you've probably noticed there are several ways to book it. A single day trip. A few private lessons. A full multi-day surf camp. They all sound similar from the outside, but they're built for genuinely different kinds of trips. Here's an honest breakdown to help you choose.
Surf Day Trip — Best for a Taste of the Coast
A guided surf trip from Essaouira is a single full day: pickup at 10am, a 2-hour lesson with a certified instructor, a Moroccan beach lunch, then free surf until 5pm. From €50 per person.
This is the right choice if you have one or two free days during a wider Morocco trip, you're not sure yet whether surfing is for you, or you want to sample the experience before committing to anything longer. It's also popular with surfers who are confident in the water already and just want a guided day exploring Sidi Kaouki's breaks with local knowledge.
Private Lessons — Best for Fast, Focused Progress
A private lesson is 2 hours, one instructor, entirely focused on you. From €45 per person. This is the fastest way to improve specific technique — pop-up, wave reading, turns — because every minute of coaching is calibrated to exactly where you are. Good for someone short on time who wants maximum progress per session, or families with young children who want extra safety attention.
Surf Camp Sidi Kaouki — Best for Real Progression
This is where most surfers who are serious about improving end up. Our surf camp in Sidi Kaouki is 6 nights, fully inclusive: a private room, all meals, 12 hours of structured lessons across the week, daily transport to the best spot of the day, and a private airport transfer. From €380.
The difference a full week makes is significant. One lesson teaches you the fundamentals. A surf camp in Sidi Kaouki gives your body time to build muscle memory, gives your instructor time to actually track your progress day to day, and gives you multiple swell conditions to learn in rather than whatever the ocean happens to be doing on a single afternoon. Most guests who do a surf camp in Sidi Kaouki leave able to surf independently — something that's much harder to achieve in a single session.
It also solves logistics entirely. Accommodation, food, transport, equipment — one booking, nothing left to organise once you land in Morocco.
Surf and Yoga Retreat — Best for a Full Reset
Our surf and yoga retreat takes the surf camp structure and adds daily yoga, designed for guests who want recovery and mindfulness built into the week alongside the surfing. From €800.
So Which Should You Book?
- One or two days available, want to try surfing: Surf day trip, €50
- Short on time, want fast technical progress: Private lessons, €45 each
- A week or more, want to genuinely learn to surf: Surf camp Sidi Kaouki, from €380
- Want surf progression plus recovery and mindfulness: Surf and yoga retreat, from €800
Most of our guests who come back a second or third time started with a single day trip, then returned for a full surf camp once they knew they loved it. There's no wrong starting point — just the right one for the time you have.

Sidi Kaouki vs Essaouira Beach: Your Surfing Questions Answered
Sidi Kaouki is generally better for surfing, with longer, cleaner, and more consistent waves thanks to direct Atlantic swells. Essaouira Beach is more sheltered, offering smaller waves that are ideal for beginners but often affected by wind.
Both spots are suitable for beginners, depending on conditions. Essaouira Beach is perfect for your first lesson with smaller, softer waves. Sidi Kaouki is also beginner-friendly, with a sandy bottom and multiple surf peaks that allow instructors to find the best waves for your level.
The best time for surfing is from September to April, when Atlantic swells are more consistent. During summer, Essaouira becomes very windy, which is great for kitesurfing but less ideal for surfing. Sidi Kaouki often still offers good surf conditions even when Essaouira is windy.
Most surfers choose to stay in Essaouira and surf in Sidi Kaouki. Essaouira offers more accommodation, restaurants, and cultural experiences, while Sidi Kaouki provides better and more consistent surf conditions. Many surf schools offer day trips between the two.
